North Jutland has become world-renowned for some of its architecture. You can, among other things, experience a building that sounds like a spaceship, one that is clumsy, and a palace in marble. North Jutland, is undergoing strong architectural development. Come see for yourself!
The architectural projects stretch from Aalborg via Hjørring to Skagen. Building by world-famous architects such as Jørn Utzon, Alvar Aalto, Coop Himmelb(l)au is joined by some of the best Danish architects, CF Møller, SHL Arkitekter, CUBO, ADEPT along with Friis and Moltke. Alvar Aalto's piece, Kunsten, the Museum of Modern Art in Aalborg, is the city's architectural jewel. But it has had plenty of competition for the title. In 2008 the Utzon Center was built at the Aalborg Waterfront, and it started a wave of exciting building projects in the area. The old coal factory Nordkraft was redesigned into a cultural hub, the House of Music was erected 600 meters from Utzon Center, and Vestre Fjordpark has been built. The old Akvavit factory is being rebuilt by the Architect superstar Bjarke Ingels to a cultural hub within the city. The earlier workshop building and boiler room will be transformed into an international Artcenter, for which the work of art 'Cloud City' by the argentine artist Tomás Saraceno is already planned for.
The news of the architecture in Aalborg did not go unnoticed, in January 2019 the New York times placed Aalborg on an impressive 8th place of the prestigious list "Places to go". Outside the capital of North Jutland, is Hjørring, a city also prospering with architecture. Vendsyssel Theater opened in 2017 which is a conversion from an industrial to an art museum. At the coast, the lighthouse Rubjerg Knude is a must-see. It is a combination where architecture and nature meet in the most beautiful way, just like the nature center at Skagen Odde which has been added to the Utzon family.
