How did the shooting of the Danish children's Christmas TV calendar ”Ludvig og Julemanden” take place? How do you make the best sweets? And what actually happened to the slave who arrived in Skagen more than two centuries ago? These are only three of the multitudinous questions to which you and your children can find answers to, with the assistance of an enthusiastic storyteller, passionate about The Good Story. The Top of Denmark reaches from Løkken in the west via Sæby in the east to Grenen in Skagen in the north – together they embrace The Top of Denmark. Here a group of local enthusiasts will make history come alive to an audience of both young and old – stories rooted in historical events, fantastic fables, and fabulous old wives' tales. Thus, in the course of the entire summer, you can learn much more about the area in an entertaining and fascinating way. But this is by far not the only story the Top of Denmark has to tell.
Create your own stories such as, 'that time when you persuaded Mum to go as far as the third sandbank in Løkken? Or the genuine palm-tree you saw on the beach in Frederikshavn? Or when you said hello to the sunfish who just loved to have its picture taken, and the cute seals in the North Sea Oceanarium?
For the top of North Jutland provides plenty of opportunities where the entire family can have fun, time and energy for one another, play together and perhaps return home with new knowledge. Your trip could take its beginning somewhere on the 150-kilometre-long sandy beach, meandering from the white beach huts and the huge waves of the west coast and, further on, across Grenen near Skagen where two seas meet, to the mild and child-friendly coast by Kattegat.
In Løkken you can walk directly from the sea, still dripping from your bathing trip, to the Action House, where eight bowling lanes, laser games, go-carts and amusement arcades await you. The kids can compete on strikes against the parents, hit each other with paintball or race each other on one of Denmark's foremost, longest and fastest go-cart tracks. A short northwards drive along the coast, and you will arrive in Hirtshals, where – in a staggering 4.5 million liters of water – seal, sharks and schooling fish of the North Sea Oceanarium will bid you welcome. Here, there is no risk of impatient parents waiting while the kids are playing, for in the largest aquarium of Northern Europe everyone participates. Moreover, it is possible to find amber in Sæby, learn to paint like Ancher and Krøyer in the Skagen Museum and visit the workshop of Santa Claus in Børglum Abbey. There are plenty of activities at the Top of Denmark - you only need to decide which one to try out first.
