The church was built ca. 1200. The modest yet well-preserved church is said to have been built by Vrejlev Monastery this has been confirmed by the then bishop Niels Stygge. The building consist of a channel and aisle which probably has been built in a late romantic era. The original building with is built in normal roman fashion consist mainly of large medieval bricks.
It is possible to visit Hæstrup Church by appointment with the parish.
